Tri Time!

After my crazy year of marathoning (two marathons less than 6 months apart equals crazy to me), I am finally ready to make myself a triathlete.  Last weekend, I biked the 2 miles from our house to Pure Fitness and then tried to hop on a treadmill for a run.  Very difficult!  I felt tired in the first 10 minutes.  Running a marathon, I feel, makes me overconfident.  Since I can run 26.2 miles, my mind takes on the superwoman mentality and thinks any other athletic task involving running will be easy.  Not so!  From last week's trial, I decided to start with the very beginner triathlon program.  So I found a book from Barnes and Noble and my 8-week plan begins tomorrow. My goal is the Nathan Tempe Triathlon, a sprint triathlon (750m swim, 12.3 mile bike, 3.1 run) on September 26.

Since there are over 8 weeks until the actual triathlon.  Once I finish my 8 week plan, I will be starting the book's 12 week plan for an Olympic Triathlon.  I won't finish that plan in time for the race, but I figure it will give my something to do in the meantime.

A very deserving shout out goes to my cousin (in-law) Stacie who will also be completing her first triathlon in a few weeks.  She's tackling the half-ironman distance (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run.)   Stacie also started a blog about her training experience.  Check her out at sonomasunshine.wordpress.com
