Wrapped headphones - Monday Made It!

Since the first week of January, I have been sticking to my gym commitment of going four mornings a week! When I get to the gym, I usually have to spend my first few minutes, walking at 2 mph on the treadmill and untangling this:

As with all my craft projects, I saw a pin on Pinterest.  This pin was for a friendship-bracelet like wrap on headphones.   Camp memories flooded back to me.  I thought this might be an answer to my tangled mess.  I'm linking up today to Monday Made It on Fourth Grade Frolics.

The project is very easy.  All you need is: a pair of headphones, embroidery floss (at least 2 skeins of the size shown below) and scissors.  I chose an hombre color of floss, because I liked the idea of different shades on my headphones, but didn't want to go through the effort of switching thread.

First, wind your floss into a small ball.  I find it is easier to manipulate this way and less subject to tangles.  Tie the embroidery floss onto the base of the headphones.  Once you have it tied on, align the tail of the knot with the headphone cord and then make another knot.   I like to think of it as making a "4" using the headphones as the straight line of the 4 and the string as triangular shaped piece.    Next, loop the ball of floss under the headphone cord and pull through the triangle in the 4.

Use your index finger and thumb to hold the tail of your original knot and the headphone cord taut, then pull tight.

Repeat until the the cord is covered.   This took me about 4 hours, but that is with frequent breaks.  I'm ecstatic with the results!

Happy Monday!

  1. I love those headphones!!!! Don't know if I have the attention span to last 4 hours to make them but I hear ya on the tangled mess....I usually wrap mine around my ipod....(I know I shouldn't) and then they are ready for my run. Now, if I could get back to consistent with running all will be well...lol. Thanks for linking up:)
